What an amazing local find. Came here for lunch on a weekday and it wasnβt terribly busy so the food came out relatively quick. The loaded hummus was very tasty and delicious (not too bland or salty, just the perfect blend). For the main course I ordered the pork souvlaki and I have to say it was probably the juiciest and most flavorful pork souvlaki Iβve ever had. The fries are also excellent. I canβt wait to go back and try the other dishes. Service was attentive and friendly.
Overview
Maria's Mediterranean sits comfortably along Bell Boulevard at 38-11 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY 11361, United States, and it feels like one of those neighborhood spots you end up recommending without even thinking about it. I first stopped in on a busy weekday afternoon after hearing locals talk about it during a community event nearby. The place was humming, yet somehow relaxed, with the kind of energy that tells you people actually enjoy eating here rather than just passing through.
What immediately stood out was how the menu balances variety with focus. Youβll find classic Mediterranean staples like grilled lamb, falafel, hummus, and fresh salads, but nothing feels thrown together. Each dish reflects a made-from-scratch approach thatβs easy to taste. Watching the kitchen work during my visit, I noticed how vegetables were chopped to order and proteins were seasoned just before hitting the grill. That extra step matters. According to data from the USDA, freshly prepared meals retain more nutrients than pre-cooked or reheated foods, which aligns perfectly with how Mediterranean cooking is traditionally done.
One regular I spoke with mentioned she orders the same chicken platter every week because itβs consistently flavorful and never dry. Consistency like that doesnβt happen by accident. Restaurants that follow standardized preparation methods, while still cooking fresh, tend to perform better in customer satisfaction studies published by the National Restaurant Association. You can feel that discipline here without it becoming rigid or boring.
The Mediterranean diet itself has been widely studied, with Harvard Health Publishing often pointing out its links to heart health and longevity. At this diner, that research translates into real plates of food that feel both comforting and balanced. Olive oil is used generously but thoughtfully, grains are hearty without being heavy, and herbs do the heavy lifting instead of excess salt. If youβre someone who likes food that tastes indulgent yet leaves you feeling good afterward, this place hits that sweet spot.
Service plays a big role in the experience as well. During one visit, a staff member walked a first-time guest through the menu, explaining differences between similar dishes in plain language. That kind of guidance builds trust, especially for diners who might not be familiar with Mediterranean cuisine beyond the basics. It reminded me of how family-run establishments often operate, even if theyβve grown popular over time.
Location-wise, being right in Bayside makes it an easy stop whether youβre local or just visiting the area. Bell Boulevard is already known for its dining options, and this restaurant holds its own among them. Online reviews frequently mention portion size, which I can confirm leans generous without crossing into wasteful. That balance is something restaurant consultants often emphasize when analyzing sustainable food service models.
There are a few limitations worth mentioning. Seating can feel tight during peak hours, and parking along the boulevard isnβt always guaranteed. Still, those minor inconveniences tend to fade once the food arrives. The overall reliability of the menu, combined with friendly service and a clear commitment to quality ingredients, explains why so many reviews highlight repeat visits rather than one-time stops.
Eating here feels less like a formal outing and more like dropping into a trusted neighborhood kitchen. The flavors are familiar but carefully executed, the atmosphere stays welcoming, and the experience reflects a genuine understanding of Mediterranean cooking rather than a surface-level imitation.

The stewards and chicken yummy over perfectly seasoned fries. The lukomad stuffed with cheesecake devine. Best I've had. The blueberry baklava was the best dessert of the year.
Amazing food and amazing service! All the staff were so friendly and attentive! The complimentary pita bread was amazing! I highly recommend the chicken souvlaki as an entree and the blueberry baklava as a desert! The French fries that came with the chicken souvlaki were so tasty and the white sauce was so good! The baklava was out of this world! Best desert I ever had!
An all time favorite place to eat. Delicious food and excellent service. Best lemon potatoes! Love their ekmek and blueberry baklava! Delish!
I've celebrated my friends' birthdays at this restaurant twice now, and both experiences were fantastic! The service was amazing, the cake was delicious, and the overall food was definitely worth the price!
The food was incredible. Scallops were delicious. Dipped the fries in the buttery sauce after. Spinach pie for an app too⦠the lamb chops wow! The man with glasses was on top of it keeping my water full as well. Server did a great job very nice. Will be coming back soon.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was fantastic. As soon as we were seated, we were promptly offered water. However, we had to wait quite a while before our server came back to take our order, which was a bit frustrating. We started with the octopus for appetizers, which was excellent. Unfortunately, the fried calamari was a bit too oily for our liking. Moving on to our main course, we tried the chicken kebab and beef, both of which were absolutely amazing. But the real star of the show was the dessert. The blueberry baklava with tahini ice cream was beyond words. It was truly a delightful way to end the meal.
